Before this trip I had never heard mountains described as Civilized, but after a week in the Alps, I feel that it is a perfectly good description of them. After passing through a little bit of Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland there is seemingly no end to the villages resorts and huts that you pass by along the trail. It makes for an easy, albeit expensive, hike through the mountains. Our first day however, we were only left with the well maintained trails of the Via Alpina in the clouds. It is a beautiful green in the spring of the Alps. The flowers are all beginning to poke out of the snow and bloom. The waterfalls are in plenty. The wildlife is returning to the high elevation. But all I can think about is how I can’t wait till I return to hike from Trieste to Nice by myself some summer soon.
